Bloodhounds get long trek to Benton; Hawks take on WB at home

LEE COUNTY – The boys' IHSAA baseball substate and regional brackets were released Wednesday and Fort Madison is going to take a bit of a roadtrip.
The Bloodhounds wound up in the Class 3A Substate 5 bracket and will go up against Benton three hours away down Highway 2.
The Class 3A 11th-ranked Bobcats won the WaMaC with a 12-6 record. They stand at 24-8 overall including a split with 5th-ranked Marion on June 12.
Benton has five starters hitting better than .300 led by Cael and Lane Kaestner who hit .340 and .333 and combined for 50 RBIs on the year.
Senior Jordan Thys is 4-1 on the year from the mound with an .092 ERA and 47 strikeouts. The Bobcats have three other starters with at least four wins on the season.
Fort Madison stands at 5-10 in the Southeast Conference and 10-17 overall. The Bloodhounds have three regular season games left before post-season play starts July 7.
Kane Williams is leading the Hounds at the plate hitting .413. Hunter Cresswell, Caden Barnes, Aiden Mitchell, and Brennan Ulik are all hitting over .300 for the year. Mitchell and Cresswell lead the Bloodhounds in RBIs with 13 each.
On the mound, Tateum Schelich is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA, tops on the squad throwing in seven games. Cresswell has a 3.20 ERA and is 1-1 on the year with four appearances.
The winner will take on the winner of Cedar Rapids Xavier/Keokuk on Monday, July 10th.
In Class 2A, Central Lee takes on West Burlington Saturday in Donnellson in Substate 5, District 10 action.
Central Lee owns a 10-9 win over the Falcons back on June 16th.  The winner of that game will face Mediapolis on Wednesday, July 5 at Van Buren County.
Junior Kaden Ames leads the Hawks with a .458 battering average and has 18 RBIs.
Bo Herdrich leads the team in RBIs with 27 and home runs with 3. The sophomore is also leading the Hawks in slugging at .667.
Chase Johnson and Blake Davis are 3-1 an 3-0 on the mound respectively. Johnson carries a 1.38 ERA just behind Ryan Roberts’ 1.35.
