PELLA – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds dropped their first soccer match of the year at the Pella Invitational tournament Saturday in Pella.

The Dutch have had the Hounds' number the last few years, keeping them from the state tournament the past two years with back-to-back losses at substate, both played in Pella.

On Saturday, Fort Madison downed Class 1A No. 9 Hudson 1-0, but then fell to Pella 3-0.

Xander Wellman scored the lone goal of the day on an assist from Leif Boeding in the first half of the Hudson game. Santiago had a save in the shutout win. He had six saves in the Pella loss.

The Hounds fall to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in the Southeast Conference and travel to Keokuk on Monday for another SEC matchup.
