Lozano to join Settles, Doherty at Shrine game

Senior lineman gets invitation to game last week.

FORT MADISON - Another Fort Madison Bloodhound has been selected to play in the Iowa Shrine Bowl game in July.

Senior Mateo Lozano received a letter of invitation last week and will play on the South's offensive squad.

Lozano joins Tanner Settles who will play on the defensive side of the ball for the South team. Fort Madison Head Coach Derek Doherty was selected as the South's running backs' and receivers' coach.

Lozano anchored the Bloodhounds offensive line that racked up more than 2,500 yards of total offense helping the Bloodhounds qualify for state from his center position.

The Bloodhounds finished the regular season with a 7-2 record and fell to Waverly-Shell Rock in the 4A playoffs.

Lozano joins Settles who was also selected to play in the senior state All-Star game that is slated for July 23rd at University of Northern Iowa.

The senior linebacker recorded 58.5 tackles this season.

The week-long event starts Sunday, July 16 with training camps and the game played on the following Saturday. The players and staff stay on campus for the week building up to the game with the South Squad taking on the North squad.
