Lady Hounds sweep doubles in win over Muscatine

Knipe wins Southeast Conference tourney at No. 1 singles Thursday

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds almost completed the sweep of Muscatine Saturday in home tennis action.
The Hounds won 5-of-6 singles matches and swept the doubles courts to walk away with an 8-1 win to move to 5-5 overall. They are 4-4 in Southeast Conference standings.
Molly Knipe topped Zara Stoltsfus 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Brianna Wright and Lauren Otte  won at Nos. 2 and 3 singles 6-4, 6-0 respectively.
Knipe is coming off winning the Southeast Conference championship at No. 1 singles. Knipe went undefeated Thursday at Danwardt Park knocking off Annalise Buxton 6-1, 6-2 in the title match. Knipe didn't drop a set in the singles divison. Brianna Wright and Naudia Ruston captured third-place in doubles play.
On Saturday, Naudia Ruston won at No. 4 singles 6-3 and Juniper Strickland knocked off Rose Hartvigsen in a tiebreaker 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Makenna Pixler fell to Maya Simpson 1-6 at No. 5 singles for the Hounds' only loss.
Knipe and Otte downed Stoltsfus and Simpson 6-2, while Wright and Ruston won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Pixler and Madelynn Gobble downed Hartvigsen and Jenna Lovstad 6-3 at No. 3.
