HTC wraps up regular season with win

Crusaders hit three homers in sixth inning

LONE TREE – The Holy Trinity Catholic softball team wrapped up the regular season with a convincing 12-2 win on the road in Lone Tree Monday night.
The Crusaders held a slim 3-1 lead going into the sixth inning but put up seven runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. They added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Ellie Hellman started with a single to lead off the sixth inning. Laura Mehmert was thrown out on a short infield hit to third moving Hellman up, but Halie Cain hit an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a 2-run home run.
Kayla Box drew a walk and Mary Hellige singled down the first base foul line to put two on. Brooke Mueller then hit a 3-run shot to right for a 7-1 lead.
Sydney Jarvis would hit the third home run of the inning two hitters later before Lone Tree would end the slugfest.
Hellige went the distance for HTC giving up six hits and two runs, one earned, while walking two and striking out three.
HTC finished the regular season 6-6 in the SEI Superconference and 10-11 overall.
They start Class 1A Region 8 post-season play at South Park against 2-22 New London with a 7 p.m. gametime.
