Hounds roll Keokuk 11-1 on the road

Fort Madison falls seven spots after weekend loss to Pella

KEOKUK - Fort Madison got back on track in boys' soccer with an 11-1 win over Keokuk in Southeast Iowa Conference action.
 
Senior Xander Wellman exploded for five goals and three assists in the win. He's now 5th in the state in goals scored with 23, 4th in points with 58, and shots on goal with 50.
 
The Class 3A 9th-ranked Bloodhounds dropped their first game of the year on Saturday at Pella and fell seven spots from the No. 2 spot in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches' Assocation rankings with the loss to the Dutch.
 
The Hounds also knocked off Class 1A 9th-ranked Hudson 1-0 at the tourney.
 
Fort Madison almost ended the game at the end of the first half going up 9-0, but Keokuk scored early in the second half forcing the Hounds to score two more times to invoke the 10-goal mercy rule.
 
Senior Jacob Pothitakis had two goals and two assists in the win. Both Wellman and Pothitakis are returning from season-ending knee injuries last season.
 
Fort Madison got two more goals from sophomores Jacob Shottenkirk and Henry Graham. Shottenkirk had three assists and Graham had two in the win.
 
Oliver Santiago had a save in the first half and Conner Gehling played keeper in the second half.
 
The Hounds improve to 13-1 on the year and 8-0 in the conference. They take on Burlington Thursday at the Baxter Sports Complex.
