Fort Madison wraps up regular season 14-3

FORT MADISON – Twelfth-ranked Newton spoiled the season finale for the Fort Madison Bloodhounds Saturday at Baxter Sports Complex.
The 15th-ranked Bloodhounds lost 5-2, scoring both goals in the first half after giving up a 3-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the match.
Fort Madison surrendered three goals in the first period, with the first coming quickly with just three minutes gone in the match. The Cardinals scored again at the 7:30 mark and again at 11 minutes.
Henry Graham would get Fort Madison on the board at the 12-minute mark on assists from Jacob Pothitakis and Xander Wellman to cut the lead to 3-1. Fort Madison would score again at the 17-minute mark with Wellman scoring off a ball from Pothitakis to get the Hounds back into the match.
Newton would put another ball into the net at 17:30 in the first half to carry a 4-2 lead into the break. Fort Madison wouldn’t get a goal in the second half, but Newton would score another goal seven minutes into the second half.
Oliver Santiago would have nine saves in the match.
The Hounds wrap up the regular season at 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the Southeast Conference, capturing the conference title.
They are off until May 22 when they take on Burlington in district semifinal action at Baxter Sports Complex.
