Hounds draw BHS in post season action

Central Lee boys start with Hillcrest May 15

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison’s boys soccer team is the No. 2 seed in its substate bracket, as the Iowa High School Athletic Association released its postseason tournament information on Tuesday.
The 15th-ranked Bloodhounds (14-2), who clinched the Southeast Conference championship with Monday’s 11-2 win over Mount Pleasant, will play host to No. 3 seed Burlington in a semifinal match on May 22.
No. 8 Iowa City Liberty is the top seeded team in the substate. Liberty will face the winner of the May 16 first-round match between 4 seed Clear Creek Amana and 5 seed Fairfield in a semifinal match on May 22.
The two semifinal winners will play on May 24 at a site to be determined.
Fort Madison and Burlington, which finished second in the Southeast Conference, split their two matches this season. The Bloodhounds won 1-0 on April 17 at Burlington, while the Grayhounds won 1-0 at Fort Madison on May 4.
Central Lee (5-7) is the No. 4 seed in Class 1A Substate 6. The Hawks will play host to Hillcrest Academy in a 7:30 p.m. first-round match on May 15. No. 3 seed Sigourney and No. 6 seed Centerville will play their first-round match at 5:30 p.m. on May 15 at Central Lee.
The Central Lee-Hillcrest Academy winner will play at top seed Pella Christian on May 22. The Sigourney-Centerville winner will play at No. 2 seed West Branch that night as well.
Semifinal winners will play in the substate final on May 24.
Central Lee lost 2-1 to Hillcrest Academy on April 18 in the teams’ only matchup this season.
Girls pairings are expected Thursday from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association.
