DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Lady Hawks dropped a 3-set match at home Thursday night to Class 2A, No. 12 West Burlington.
The SEI Superconference loss sends the Hawks to 1-4 in the conference and 12-11 overall. West Burlington improves to 4-1 and 33-6 overall with the 25-23, 25-13, 25-21 win.
“West Burlington is definitely a scrappy team. There are not many balls they let fall,” said Central Lee Head Coach Amy Cook.
“I feel Central Lee did a lot better today overall.  Our focus was being mentally prepared for the game and I thought the girls did a great job with that.”
Halle Lampe and Taylor Jones combined for 15 kills on 37 attempts. Kenna Sandoval had 18 assists for the Hawks.
Kylie Fortune was 18 of 19 serving with a couple aces. Jayden Mueller was 8 of 9 serving and 33 digs from the back row. Fortune and Lampe had five blocks each.
“There are a couple things we need to adjust and work on in practice, but I think we are in a good place and will continue to reflect after every game and practice and focus on giving it all mentally and physically each day.”
Central Lee hosts Danville (3-20) Tuesday night in the main gym and then take on Class 1A No. 4 Holy Trinity Catholic at Shottenkirk Gymnasium in Fort Madison on Thursday. This Saturday is the eight-team Davis County tournament at the Mutchler Community Center in Bloomfield.
