DONNELLSON – Freshman Lizzy Mason is making a name for herself in her first year playing varsity basketball.
The Lady Hawks’ Mason scored 21 in Tuesday night’s 69-51 loss to Notre Dame at Central Lee High School after the game was relocated to Donnellson following a CO2 leak at Father Minnett Gymnasium in Burlington.
The Nikes ran away with the game in the second half after holding a slim 8-point lead going into the half.
Notre Dame would stretch that lead to 14 47-33 at the end of the third as the Nikes outscored Central Lee 16-10 behind senior Lauren Krieger’s eight points. She led all scorers with 30 on the night.
The Hawks would go down by more than 20 most of the way through the fourth quarter as they struggled to get any inside game going. However, Mason kept up with some high arcing threes as she raced out to her career high.
Ellie Lake chipped in with nine points and Jayden Mueller had eight. Taylor Jones had five before leaving the game with an illness, which hampered the Hawks' schemes.
Notre Dame stays perfect on the year at 3-0 (3-0 SEI Superconference). Central Lee falls to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
They host Van Buren in a quad at Central Lee High School on Friday.
