Fort Madison girls go 1-2-3 at Keokuk Invite

Bloodhound boys win, Central Lee's Anderson second overall

KEOKUK - Avery Rump is setting a pace that's been great for the Fort Madison girls cross country team so far this year.

Rump, just a freshman, ran a 20:12.90, time at the Keokuk Cross Country meet Thursday night to take first place overall.

Rump is fresh off winning the Orange Division at Cedar Rapids Prairie, prompting Head Coach Brian Mendez to say, "she loves being out front and having that open air."

Paetyn Wiegand took 2nd place with a 21:34.20 and Rump's twin sister Addison ran a 22:05.14 good enough for third place to lead Fort Madison to the overall team win with 31 points.

Kirksville was second with 71 points followed by Clark County (82), Keokuk (122) and Central Lee (169).

With the top five runners for each school making up the team total Fort Madison got a 12th-place finish from Elie Huebner (24.08.62) and Hadley Wolfe (13th-24.24.82)

Other runners for the Bloodhounds were Allison Lamb (18th), and Alexa Walz  (21st).

Central Lee's girls were led by Lauren Sanders with a 27:25.57 (26th), Ericka Chambers (33rd), Sidney Gruntmeir (34th), Audrey Hand (37th) and Leah Seamons (39th).

Fort Madison's boys also won first place with 34 points, followed by Holy Trinity Catholic who took 2nd on a five-member team at 104. Central Lee came in fourth with 120 points. Keokuk was 6th at 150.

Fort Madison was led by Mason McLey who came in fourth at 18:32.43. Then the Hounds took 6th through 11th positions with Riley Trip in 6th at 18:58.15, Jacob Shottenkirk 19:07.09 (7th), Peyton Lambert 19:14.03 (8th), and the final scoring runner Nolan Guzman at 19:17.81 (9th).

John Cottrell finished 10th at 19:21.27 and Cameron Shutwell crossed next at 19:44.31 in 11th place.

Holy Trinity Catholic captured spots 16-18 led by Sheldon Kruse at 20:09.14, Edward Schroeder at 20:10.63, and Maddox Rung at 20.10.93.

"What a great start to the season," head coach Mike Rung said. "For only having five runners, these boys did very well."

Other scoring runners for HTC included Tate Green 20:58.04 (23rd) and Layne Rung (30th).

Central Lee's Grant Anderson had the best local finish for the boys with an 18:18.53 (2nd).  Leo Thomas was second for the the Hawks at 19:54.19 and Ayden Kent was third in 28th place at 21:52.38. Other scoring runners for Central Lee were Kyler Mulligan (34th) and Brendan Mulligan (43rd). Beau Boyd finished in 48th place.
