WEST POINT – Holy Trinity’s girls' softball team has cleaned up their act a bit this week.
The Crusaders rolled Winfield 18-2 and Danville 13-2 in SEI Superconference girls' softball action this week.
HTC has been prone to some errors over the past couple weeks but committed just two in each of the wins on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
On Thursday, Mary Hellige went five innings allowing just two runs, one earned, while striking out five and surrendering five hits.
Haile Cain led the Crusaders at the plate in the win over Danville going 4-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kayla Box, had three hits and three RBIs for HTC. Hellige, Jenna DiPrima, Laura Mehmert, and Ellie Hellman all had two-hit games for Holy Trinity.
Two big innings, including a six-run first and a four-run third, set the tone for HTC. Danville got their only two runs in the first inning, but Hellige held them in check the rest of the way.
Hellige also went the distance Wednesday against Winfield. The senior gave up two earned runs on six hits, while striking out four in the win.
Cain again was the spark on offense going 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. DiPrima went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Box, Hellige, Brooke Mueller, Sydney Jarvis, and Mehmert each had two RBIs in the win.
The wins lift the Crusaders over .500 in SEI Superconference play and to 7-9 overall.
HTC won its third in a row with a 13-3 win over Mediapolis in late game Friday night.
