Central Lee girls get back-to-back wins

Lady Hawks knock off Danville, Brookfield

DONNELLSON - The Central Lee girls moved to .500 on the year with back-to-back wins this weekend.

The Lady Hawks knocked off Danville 47-41 Friday night and then downed Brookfield, Mo. in the River Rivalry Series at Clark County High School Saturday.

On Friday, freshman Kenna Sandoval fired in 19 as she continues to learn her role in the interior offense. Central Lee opened a 12-9 first quarter lead, but surrendered the advantage in the second quarter scoring just six points while giving up 12 to the Bears.

The outside shooting picked up in the third quarter with three 3-pointers, one each from Mya Lampe, Kodi Moeller, and Jayden Mueller. Sandoval scored inside three times in the quarter to allow Central Lee to regain the lead at 35-32.

Sandoval would score six again in the fourth quarter and Makayla Morrison would score six including 3-of-4 of at the free throw line to help the Lady Hawks extend for the win.

Morrison finished with eight points in the win.

On Saturday, Morrison scored 12 to lead the Hawks to a 41-29 win. The senior started hot with a couple 3-balls in the first quarter but Central Lee trailed by two going into the second period.

The Hawks' defense then took over and held Brookfield scoreless in the second quarter, while Central Lee put up 14 for a 24-12 halftime lead.

The ladies would pull away from there behind Sandoval's six fourth-quarter points and another Morrison 3-pointer.

Central Lee improves to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the SEI Superconference South. They host Columbus (4-4) on Monday in the final game before the new year.
