Lady Hawks get goals from Martin, Lake

Posted
DONNELLSON - The Central Lee girls got to .500 on the season with a 2-1 win over Centerville.
Sarah Martin and Ellie Lake both scored in the second half to wipe out a 1-0 deficit to the Big Red.
Aubree Boyd had eight shots, two on goal and Lake had three shots in addition to her goal to lead Central Lee offensively.
Bailey Schwarts had five saves in the goal.
"We came out playing the ball down the field well and had some opportunities at the beginning of the game, but just couldn't finish," said head coach Antonia Estrada.
Centerville would score the first goal with 25:10 left in the first half. "Our defense just got caught playing too far up and they played a through ball where #20 out ran out defense and put one in the back of the net," he said.
"At half time we would talked about how we need win the 50/50 balls and the defense can't play so flat. Winning the 50/50 balls increased a lot in the second half and our defense made the adjustment to where we were able stop the through balls."
Martin scored with 27:48 left in the second half when Addy Brumble crossed it over on the assist.
Less than five minutes later at 23:08, Martin sent a ball in from out wide where Ellie Lake set it up with her right foot and shot it right through the keeper hands.
"Watching the girls celebrate after a goal is just an awesome feeling!," Estrada said.
"The girls really stepped it up the second half. You could tell they really wanted it the second half. They never gave up.
"Sarah Martin really stepped it up tonight. She usually plays defensive but we decided to move her up front because I know she has a foot on her and boy am I glad I did. She definitely was the player of the game tonight."
The Hawks 4-4 (0-1) travel to Wapello Friday night.
