Central Lee boys erupt in win over Wapello

Merschman, Kent each score four times

WAPELLO – Central Lee got a scoring juggernaut Thursday in a win over Wapello on the road.

The Hawks put up eight goals in the first half before hitting the 10-run mercy rule with close to 20 minutes left enroute to a 13-3 win.

Ayden Kent and Dante Merschman each scored four goals to lead the Hawks. Merschman also had three assists.

Kent had two unassisted goals at 20:50 in the first half and again a minute-and-a half-later to give Central Lee a 4-1 lead.

Kent would score again four minutes later on one of Merschman’s assists. Landan Lowenberg would score the next two in the first half and Landon Crank would wrap up the scoring with a kick at 2:50 for an 8-3 first half lead.

The Hawks’ Hunter Gregory would hold Wapello scoreless in the second half and had four saves in the win. Ayden Krehbiel had the final goal at 19:38 on a ball from Lowenberg.

Central Lee improves to 4-5 on the year and moves over .500 in the SEI Superconference at 3-2 with the win.

The Hawks host Columbus Junction at 7 p.m. Thursday.
