Bloodhounds split with Mt. Pleasant

Wellman scores in second half to lift boys; girls fall in OT

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds got a goal from Xander Wellman in the second half to give the Hounds a 1-0 win over Burlington on the road.

The win moves the No. 2 ranked Bloodhounds to 8-0 on the year and 4-0 in the Southeast Conference.

Wellman’s goal came at the 13:30 mark off an assist from Leif Boeding.

Oliver Santiago recorded one save to get the shutout.

Fort Madison holds a one game lead over Washington (3-1). The Hounds knocked off the Demons in the first outing of the year.

Wellman’s 11 goals this year are 4th best and his 27 points are 3rd best in 3A. The senior is also second in the state in shots and shots on goal.

The Lady Hounds fell short in OT to the Grayhounds at the Baxter Sports Complex. The Bloodhounds and Lady Grayhounds were tied at 0 after 80 minutes of play, when BHS scored one minute into the first OT session.

Hadley Wolfe had two shots on goal, one of which clipped a referee before going into the goal and was not allowed.

Halle Menke also had two shots on goal and another shot. Teagan Snaadt had two shots on goal to give the Lady Hounds six on the night.

Taylor Johnson had 13 saves on the night before the Grayhounds were able to score in the OT’s first possession.

Fort Madison falls to 3-1 in the Southeast, one game behind the Grayhounds (4-0) and tied with Washington. Fort Madison owns a win over the Lady Demons earlier this year.

The Fort Madison girls take on Mt. Pleasant at home Thursday, while the boys travel to Mt. Pleasant, both Southeast Conference matchups.
