Fort Madison, Central Lee combine for 20 entries at state track meet

Hounds get 19 berths, while Hawks' Grant Myhre to run open 400.

LEE COUNTY - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds will be sending one of the largest contingencies of runners and field event athletes to the state track tournament in quite a while.
The IGHSAU/IAHSAA Iowa High School State Track and Field meet opens Thursday with 2A and 3A competing in the first sessions this year starting at 9 a.m.
Central Lee is sending Grant Myhre to run in the open 400 after he qualified Thursday at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont sectional with a 52.81.
For the Hounds, Henry Wiseman, who just seven months ago torn his ACL, is seeded 11th in the 110 hurdles despite a 3rd place finish at sectionals. Clear Creek-Amana’s Aren Schlemme and Tay Seals are seeded at 3rd and 7th ahead of Wiseman and they were in the same sectional Thursday at Mt. Pleasant.
Julian Dear will run in the 100 and 200 in the 15th and 13th seed respectively. Mason McLey will run in the open 400 seeded 20th of 24.
Fort Madison’s 4x100 team of Adam Sobczak, Dayton Lamar, Hayden Segoviano and Dear will be seeded 20th of 24 teams with a seeding time of 44.24, .96 seconds off Class 3A’s fastest time.
The 4x800 team of Peyton Lambert, Mason McLey, Riley Tripp and Nolan Guzman qualified as the 11th fastest team in 3A with a time of 8:15.67. That team finished 3rd at districts, which means two of the district qualifier teams ahead of the Hounds are in the top 10 - Assumption with a time of 8:14.40 and CC-A with at time of 8:15.39.
Brandon Klein qualified in the 100-meter wheelchair, the 200 meter wheel chair, the 400 meter wheelchair, and the boys wheelchair shot put where he’s the top seed.
For Madison’s Distance medley team of Segoviano, Dear, Lambert and Guzman is seeded 16h with seeding time of 3:41.61, 8.3 seconds off the pace of Epworth, WD.
Kenden Bowie will be seeded 13th in the high jump behind Fairfield’s Eli Zillman who is the top seed going into Thursday’s meet, and the Trojans’ Ryan Giberson.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Sobczak, Callahan, Kiawante Smith, and Wiseman are the 5th seed with a time of 1:00.66, 1.5 seconds behind the state’s top 3A team.
On the ladies side, Mara Smith’s 2:21.04 at sectionals was good enough for a 5th seed at Thursday. Sophomore Avery Rump is seeded 8th in the 1500 and 13th in the 3000-meter run Thursday on the blue oval.
The 4x800 team of McKayla Schinstock, Smith, Rump and Addison Rump will be seeded 7th with a qualifying time of 9:49.75
Junior Brylie Lorence is seeded 20th in discuss and 7th in the shot put. The distance medley team of Lillian Gelsthorpe, Olivian Buckner, Smith and Avery Rump is seeded 12th at 4:23.01.
Lorence and Bowie kick things off Thursday morning with the girls discus and boys high jump at 9 a.m. Dear will run in the 200-meter prelims at approximately 11:10 a.m. and then the 100-meter preliminaries at 1:10 p.m. McLey and Myhre will follow in the open 400 finals after the 100 preliminaries are completed.
The girls and boys 4x800 teams will compete starting at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday. After the 400-meter dash, the Hounds top 5 shuttle hurdle team will compete in preliminaries roundout out the events on Thursday.
The distance medley relays start Friday action at 9 a.m. and Lorence will compete in the 3A girls shot starting at 9 a.m. Wiseman will compete in the 110 hurdle preliminaries starting at 10:50 a.m.
Saturday will have the 800 finals with Mara Smith at 10:30, Klein in the 100, 200 and 400  wheel chair, 110 hurdle finals, 100-meter, 200-meter dash, the 1500 meter.
