LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Supervisor puts support behind Sheriff Weber

Posted

Dear Editor:
It was truly nice of Elliot Vandenberg to grace us with his presence (Saturday, July 20th) at the Republican banquet. It waas especially nice because prior to running for public office I've never seen him at the many Republian events that I attend.
He stopped by long enought to personally insult me and others. Many of those he insuled who have been serving the GOP since well before he was born. Mr. Vandenberg must be a busy guy because he had to leave before others spoke of how they would build a better Lee County and State of Iowa in their service to the people and the party. I guess he needed to get out of there before the fundraising began.
You did a great job of turning something that was political and making it personal.
I have been carrying the water for the Republican party that I love so dearly since 1976 as a teenager. I volunteered for the Ronald Reagan campaign and then in 1980 was a low paid staffer. As a young man I worked for Chuck Grassley's campaign, Robert Ray's campaign when he first ran. I've been involved in conventions, inaugurations, Republican clubs, and events for my entire life.
For someone whom I've never heard of and never seen at a Republican event in my life to come into my house and call me a RINO is completely unacceptable. In addition, he continues to spout unfounded unproven claims with regard to our current sheriff that if this weren't politics, it would be litigatable.
I support every Republican up and down the ticket except for one.
