Smith takes 1st at Ottumwa girls invitational

Kemper takes 1st place in the 100 pound division

OTTUMWA - Mara Smith recorded a 15-0 tech fall to take the 135 lb class at the Ottumwa Invitational Saturday at Evans Middle School.

Smith went 3-0 at the tournament and took out runner-up Breegan Ellison of Moravia with a pin 38 seconds into the second period. She then got Kirksville's Melodie Hicks' shoulders to the mat at 1:23 for a fall.

Her tech fall over Paige Craun of Fairfield sealed the title.

Hailie Kemper won the 100 lb division with two wins over Keokuk's Madelyn Rose, both by fall.

Chloe Sokolik went 3 for 4 in taking second place in the girls' 125 lb class. Sokolik beat Jaydin Scharf of Fairfield with a pin at 1:22 in the 5th round to take the runner-up spot.

She recorded one other pin and a 7-6 decision in the first round.

Mady Emmett went 1-2 on the day to take 3rd place at 145 lbs.

Tatum Peters went 1-3 on the day, but her first round pin of Zaira Garcia Gonzalez of Ottumwa in the first period got her 4th place overall.

At 170 lbs, Sadie Brandon went 3-1 with two tech falls and a pin to take second place. Brandon lost in a pin to Kirksville's Madisynn Crawford for runner-up.
