Nikes roll Crusaders in SEI Superconference action

FORT MADISON - Notre Dame came into Shottenkirk Gym Tuesday night and sent a message that home court advantage isn't enough.

The Nikes downed the Lady Crusaders 61-20 and then the boys continued the rampage with an 83-34 win over Holy Trinity.

Mary Hellige led the HTC girls with eight points. Teagan Snaadt and Kayla Box both had four points in the loss.

Notre Dame held Holy Trinity to just 11 first-half points, two in the first quarter rushing out to a 39-11 lead at the half. The Crusaders wouldn't get closer than 28 the rest of the night, only scoring two points in the final period.

Gabby Deery led all scorers with 17 points. Anna Engberg had 14 for Notre Dame.

The Lady Crusaders fall to 1-4 in the SEI Superconference and 2-4 overall. They travel to Van Buren County (1-5) on Friday night before participating in the River Rivalry Classic on Saturday at Clark County High School at 9:30.

In the boys game, Luke Hellige scored 12 for the Crusaders. Conner Gehling had eight in the loss.

The Crusaders kept things close in the first period, trailing just 12-8. But the Nikes would go on a two-quarter rally outscoring Holy Trinity 21-8 in the second period and 25-5 out of the lockerroom in the third quarter to set the tone.

Liam Delaney had 21 for Notre Dame to lead all scorers.

The Crusaders fall to 0-5 in the SEISC South and 1-6 overall with the loss. They travel to Van Buren County in the double header with the girls on Friday.

They play at Keokuk High School in the River Rivalry Classic at 3:30  against Highland.
