MONTROSE - Lee County Conservation is excited to partner with local DNR Officer Hunter for a new, unique event - Field to Freezer: A Wild Game Workshop on Sunday, October 15th at 2:00 PM at Wilson Lake Park!
Officer Hunter will demonstrate how to break down and process various wild game, from deer to squirrels. This event will be a great way to gain confidence going into the field, so you’ll be able to make the most of a harvest!
It will be a hands-on experience to develop your backcountry skills. During this workshop you’ll learn about how to properly care for meat in the field and why it’s so important to do so. We will also cover the foundations of skinning, quartering, and at home butchering.
After attending this workshop, participants will know the basics of processing their hunting harvest and readying it for the freezer. Animals will be provided by our local Iowa DNR.
Kindly note that actual animals will be used in this demonstration and could be disturbing to some participants.
