Esselene Alta “Essie” Hamilton Rooney, 99, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Oak View Nursing & Rehabilitation in Burlington, IA. She was born on April 17, 1925 in Fort Madison, IA to William & Lena Martin Scott. She married Cecil B. Hamilton on January 23, 1944 in Fort Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1977. She married Eugene G. Rooney on October 14, 1985 in Fort Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2020. She was a nurse most of her life and was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Altar & Rosary Society of the church. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics when she was younger.
Essie is survived by: 1-daughter: Carolyn Barnes of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sons: Mike (Jean) Hamilton of Fort Madison, IA & Bill (Sandy) Hamilton of Burlington, IA; 11-grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, both husbands, 1-daughter, Colene, 1-brother & 3-sisters.
The visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery.
