Hound boys lose to Muskies on the road

Fifth and seventh inning rallies come up short

MUSCATINE – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds spotted Muscatine a 7-0 lead before battling back in an 8-5 loss Wednesday in Muscatine.
The loss is the eighth in a row for the Hounds after starting the season 7-4.
Aiden Mitchell took the loss for Fort Madison going five innings, surrendering all eight runs, seven earned while striking out two, and walking five. Mike Fuller came on in relief and threw one inning, allowing one hit and no runs.
Trailing 7-0 going into the top of the 5th, the Hounds put the first three runners on with a walk and two singles to load the bases. Stefan Berlett would score on a passed ball and Brody Cashman would then walk to load the bases again with no outs.
Reece Huey would then ground into a 4-6-3 double play that would score sophomore Eric Cornelis to make it a 7-2 game with two outs.
Hunter Cresswell would then shoot a double to right scoring Fuller from third before a strikeout ended the rally at 7-3.
Fort Madison would start things up again in the top of the 7th with one out.
Caden Barnes would walk to put one on with one out and Jay Ellison came in to courtesy run. Brody Cashman popped out to second for the second out. Then Huey and Cresswell walked to load the bases. Hellige would come through with a double to left scoring Ellison and Huey to make it 8-5. A Tateum Schelich ground out would end the game.
Hellige led the Hounds with two hits, while Cashman, Cresswell, Berlett, Nolan Lamb, and Barnes all had hits for Fort Madison (3-4 Southeast, 7-12 overall).
The Hounds take on Burlington tonight at FMHS for a jv/varsity doubleheader, and then are at Keokuk Friday night for a jv/varsity doubleheader.
