FORT MADISON - In the past few years there has been an increase in risk-taking and careless driving. No matter how advanced you think your driving skills may be, speeding is dangerous. Obeying posted speed limits keep drivers and passengers safe.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, local roads are more dangerous than highways for speeders. We are asking you to slow down in your neighborhoods and on your local roads. You need to always obey the posted speed limit. Young people and motorcyclists are especially susceptible to high speeds, and they represent the largest demographics involved in speeding-related vehicle crashes.
The Fort Madison Police Department is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to remind drivers to stop speeding. Advancements in vehicle safety and passenger protection cannot keep people safe from the dangers of speeding.
The Fort Madison Police Department is hosting a speed campaign with other law enforcement agencies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday, June 14, 2024 to remind drivers to stop speeding and exercise safe driving.
We are asking our town to please slow down and obey the posted signs. Our goal is to save lives and we are putting all drivers on alert. The posted speed limit is the law. No excuses. Stop speeding.
