Eaves snags Big Bass at LCAA event

Big Hollow tournament sports 16 teams

SPERRY - The Lake Cooper Bass Angling Association produced one of three ‘Opens’ of it's open team tournament format series Saturday at Big Hollow Lake, near Sperry Iowa.
For a change, the weather was great and little wind led anglers to more fishing time than fighting the trolling motor in the wind all day.  Water quality was outstanding as reports of observing fish thirteen feet down became somewhat of an issue as they had to fine tune lure selection and presentation.  Definitely a situation where if you can see the fish, they can see you better.
Sixteen teams of two anglers came from all over to fish for the best five fish total weight.  The first-place team of Aaron Faulk / Nate Brown boated an incredible bag of five fish at 21.95 lbs. The average weight of 4.39 lbs. per bass was a number that would be great anywhere in Iowa.   Second-place belonged to the local area team of Mike Mertens / Jim Zane with a total five fish weight of 14.38 lbs.  Third place was won by Jeff Eaves / Darren Skow with five fish at 14.04 lbs.  The 4th place team of Dan Chickering / Gary Roberts weighed in five bass at a total weight of 13.01lbs.
The big bass was caught by the Jeff Eaves 4th-place team at a very respectful 5.64 lbs.
The LCAA is an open club for aspiring anglers and has been an active regional and local community catch-and-release club utilizing a ‘bump and dump” format process for over 37 years.  Prospective anglers, whether for competition or educational reasons, men or women and in some cases teenagers 15 up are welcome.  No boat is needed. We are always looking for non-boaters, as it is part of our verification process for each boat to have a partner.
