Details released on boating accident

21-year-old Fort Madison man run over by boat

FORT MADISON – More details have been released on the boating accident that occurred at around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Fort Madison police, Carlos Tecpanectal, 21, of Fort Madison was injured when he fell off the front of the boat as it was traveling forward.
The driver of the boat was Zachariah Raines, 23, also of Fort Madison. Raines was given field sobriety tests and was taken by Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources staff for a blood test, but results of that test have not been released.
There were six occupants in the boat when Tecpanectal went into the river north of Fort Madison. Police said Tecpanectal was struck multiple times by the propeller after he was overrun by the boat and suffered multiple lacerations. The occupants administered first aid on the way back to Willow Patch where they were met by first responders, who were initially dispatched to the marina.
He was transported by AirEvac to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for injuries sustained in the accident.
Fort Madison Police, Fort Madison Fire & Rescue, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, Lee County EMS, Iowa DNR, and AirEvac responded to the incident.
Due to federal HIPAA regulations, a condition report on Tecpanectal will not be made public.
