Chase yields two arrests, third suspect at large

LEE COUNTY – A chase that emanated out of Keokuk led local authorities on a four-hour chase and search near Montrose Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber deputies were called to assist in the chase as it headed north out of Keokuk.
While in pursuit, LeeComm 911 got a report of a 15-year-old being shot near the former Lincoln School in Keokuk. With most officers involved in the chase, it took a few minutes to get an officer to the location of the alleged shooting.
After arriving at the scene, police couldn’t find any victims or suspects and a call to the number reporting the shooting went unanswered. It was determined that the report could have come from those in the vehicle being chased to get authorities to stand down on the chase.
Weber confirmed Wednesday night there’s no evidence of anyone being shot at this time and charges are being investigated against the suspects for false reporting.

Lee County deputy Austin Wagenhauser, along with K9 officer “Mac” discovered two suspects hiding in the brush near Montrose at 320th Street and 250th Avenue. The two were taken into custody without incident.
Weber said he wasn’t informed of what started the chase, but said U.S. Marshals were involved.
“When we got there we helped set up a perimeter and then were into the timber. Then we spent the next four hours on a hot afternoon looking for them,” he said.
A third suspect is still considered at-large.
