FORT MADISON – Fort Madison City Councilman Chad Cangas revealed Tuesday night that he will be resigning his seat on the council.

Cangas told the board that the council’s next meeting scheduled for May 2 would be his last meeting,

The two-term 5th Ward councilman said he’s found a home outside the district that will prevent him from serving the district. But he told the council he had several names of people that were interested in filling out his term.

Cangas’ term was set to expire this year and the seat is up for election.

City Clerk Melinda Blind said the city will have 60 days to fill the seat but will likely fill it by appointment with the seat up for election on Nov. 7th.
