DAVENPORT — Hadley Wolfe had Fort Madison’s lone goal in a 3-1 girls soccer loss to Davenport North on Thursday night.
Wolfe’s goal came at 19:02 in the second half as the Bloodhounds (10-3) couldn’t get much offense going against North (8-5). Halle Meek had the only other shot on goal for Fort Madison.
"The girls played a good game against a tough opponent,” Fort Madison coach Carrie Burken said. "Davenport North was able to possess the ball for most of the game, but the defense did a good job of slowing down their attack.”
Fort Madison goalkeeper Taylor Johnson had 12 saves.
"Taylor put in a good shift, racking up a lot of saves on a slippery field,” Burken said. "Hadley put forth great individual effort to get our lone goal of the game. It was a great test going into postseason.”
The Bloodhounds are off until next Friday’s Class 2A regional opener against Keokuk at the Baxter Sports Complex. Fort Madison has opened the postseason against the Chiefs the last two seasons.
Fort Madison has won the last 11 games against Keokuk, a streak that dates back to the 2018 season. The Bloodhounds beat the Chiefs 10-0 and 12-0 this season.
The winner of that game will play at Southeast Conference champion and 15th-ranked Burlington in a semifinal on May 21. Fort Madison has played the Grayhounds in the regional tournament twice in the last three seasons.
The other side of the bracket has Mount Pleasant playing host to Notre Dame on May 17, with the winner playing at No. 8 Iowa City Liberty in a May 21 semifinal.
The regional final is May 23.
Central Lee opens Class 1A regional play with a quarterfinal game at Mediapolis on May 15.
The Hawks’ side of the Region 1 bracket has Wapello playing at West Branch in a game on Monday, with the winner playing at top-ranked Davenport Assumption in the quarterfinals on May 15. The winner of that game will play the Mediapolis-Central Lee winner in a semifinal on May 21.
The other side of the bracket has Northeast at Marquette Catholic in a first-round game on May 13. The winner of that game plays at Beckman Catholic on May 15 in one quarterfinal, with West Liberty at Tipton in the other quarterfinal. The two winners will face off in the semifinals on May 21.
