Ruby Lee Bermel, 76, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison. She was born on April 9, 1948 in Keokuk, IA to James & Barbara St. Claire Burke. She married Charles G. Bermel on January 6, 1990 in Davenport, IA. She received her BA in Psychology from St. Ambrose University and was a Social Worker II, Case Manager, for the State of Iowa. She was an activist for human rights with a focus on women’s rights.
Ruby is survived by: her husband: Charles Bermel of Fort Madison, IA; 2-daughters: Cathy St. Claire of Clarence, IA & Michele (Chris) Pisman of Wisconsin and 2-grandchildren: Eli Wiley & Bella Kinnestom. She was preceded in death by: her parents, 1-brother & 1-sister.
