Bloodhound boys end season at sectionals.

Helmick 7th at girls SEC conference meet

MT. PLEASANT – Brady Wade shot an 85 to lead Fort Madison at the 3A Sectional boys golf meet Wednesday. Cole Quittem shot a solid 87 and Colton Boyer carded a 97 for the Hounds.
Washington’s Roman Roth was medalist at the event qualifying for the district meet on Monday at Williamsburg Stone Creek with a 3-under par 69.
Qualifiers from the district meet will advance to the State Golf Championships Monday May 20-21 in Amex. For the others it was the end of the season.
Washington and Albia advanced as a team to the district meet. The top golfer and runner-up from the non qualifying teams also advance which left the Bloodhounds out. Mt. Pleasant’s Reece Coffman and Nate Dismang had the two lowest scores outside of Washington and Albia players with a 79 and 80 respectively.
Other golfers for Fort Madison included Cade Denning (100), Oliver Santiago (101) and Nolan Lamb (107).
The Hounds finished with a team score of 369 which was 7th in the nine-team sectional. Keokuk finished with a 404 led by Jaydan Thomas’ 89.
At the girls Southeast Conference Tournament, Lauryn Helmick led the Lady Hounds with a 95 good enough for 7th place at the event held at the Elks Club course in Keokuk.
Fort Madison finished 3rd as a team with a 398. Keokuk won the event on their home course with a 358. Burlington was second with a 393.
Kylie Lumino was right behind Helmick with a 96 on the par-74 course. Natalie Wright shot a 99 for the Lady Hounds. Iris Arevalo’s 108 rounded out the Bloodhound scoring. Tatum Peter shot a 108 and Lucy Arevalo shot a 116 for Fort Madison.
Burlington’s Lauren Briggs shot a one-under 73 to win medalist honors. The Class 3A regionals get under way Friday. The Lady Hounds will play in a 12-team Region 4 at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon. Keokuk, Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Washington are also in the regional.
